ADVANCE INVEST 2: Armed services trauma rehabilitation outcome study - injured Veterans' experiences of transition study

Aim

This study aims to identify factors affecting transition outcomes (in terms of health, well-being, and economic stability) of those who were injured on the battlefield in Afghanistan. This will go on to make recommendations to support transitioning individuals (particularly battlefield casualties and those with service-related disabilities) from the perspectives of policy, practice, and service delivery by considering both the situation of the individual and the resettlement, health-related, and other support services provided to them.

Method

Mixed-methods study using participants from the ADVANCE Study cohort.  The quantitative component includes all those in the cohort who had left the Services whether uninjured (n=108) or injured on the battlefield (n = 426). The qualitative component will comprise injured amputees (n=12) and their family members; injured non-amputees (n=12) and their family members; non-injured participants with medical discharges (n=6) and their family members.
